Warm, cosy and undoubtedly nostalgic. There’s something truly comforting about a classic Christmas movie – and now you can bring that same comfort to your bedroom.
When it comes to bedrooms, Christmas film snug levels are off the charts. From roaring log fires and beds layered in cosy knitted blankets, to windows adorned in festive garlands and fairy lights, these are the kind of bedrooms that make you want to hibernate until the New Year.
So, if you’re looking to create a sleep sanctuary that’s fit for a lead role, Christmas films make for the ultimate mood board for a long winter of nesting.
In this cinematic styling guide, we’ll unwrap some of the nation’s favourite Christmas flick bedrooms, offering our expert design tips on how to recreate these iconic looks in your own home this festive season.
Ready to deck the halls – and your bedroom? Cue the fake snowflakes…
Here are our top four famous bedrooms from festive flicks and how to recreate them…
“This is my house. I have to defend it.” Kevin McCallister
“This is my house. I have to defend it.”
Kevin McCallister
First up, we have a Christmas classic: the family house in Home Alone (1990). If this is a film you pop on every year without fail, you may have noticed that there’s a very specific colour scheme in the McCallister’s home… Red and green. A staple colour combination, these merry shades are plastered everywhere in the house – from the forest green tiled countertops in the kitchen, to the red carpet on the stairs that Harry and Marv fall down many, many times. It’s a bold design choice, but it works perfectly for the festive season – and who doesn’t love a bit of continuity?

Design style: Classic Christmas, ‘90s nostalgia
Colour palette: Red and green
Recommended bed: Westbrook Kids Metal Bunk Bed
To replicate the magic of the McCallister’s master suite, you’re going to want to introduce plenty of warm tones, patterns, and fabrics. One of the easiest ways to do this is with a red patterned wallpaper, adding instant depth, visual interest, and a homey feel.
Now you could go all-out and invest in a four-poster bed just like the McCallisters’ grand one. Or, go for something slightly more modern, but just as elegant, with a wooden bed frame like our dark brown Tribeca bed. For the kids (and many imminent cousins’ sleepovers), a space-saving bunk bed is the best way forward.
Keep things simple and dress your bed in a red block colour duvet, over a squishy high-tog duvet (perfect for jumping on, like Kevin!). Finish with some extra red and green accessories, like a holly wreath above the bed or a miniature Christmas tree on the bedside table to elevate the look, and you’re all set. Now, don’t forget to lock the doors and keep an eye out for those pesky wet bandits…
“Rosehill Cottage is a charming, small cottage in the town of Surrey.” Amanda

One of the most lusted-after film interiors is, without a doubt, Rosehill Cottage from The Holiday (2006) – and it’s clear to see why. With its exposed bricks, snow-frosted windows, and a bed that you could spend the entire winter in, Rosehill Cottage is a character in its own right. That’s all down to film director, Nancy Meyers, who has become so well-known for cosy interiors, that people now refer to her signature style as the ‘Nancy Meyers aesthetic.’
Design style: Shabby chic, cottagecore, farmhouse aesthetic
Colour palette: White, cream, cool-tone neutrals
Recommended bed: Hatti Metal Bed Frame
To channel your inner Nancy Meyers, you need to strike the perfect balance between cosiness and luxury. That means thoughtful details and lots of soft furnishings. Choose soothing, soft neutrals for your foundations, such as whites, creams, and cool-tone greys.
For your bed, Iris has a very classic metal bed frame, dressed in plump pillows, layers of throws, knitted blankets, and faux fur textures, which is key for this look. Accessorise with a few lamps and flickering candles for soft lighting. Now all that’s left to do is get the log fire going and wait for Jude Law to knock on the door…
“Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents.” Jo March
“Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents.”

If any home could be described as a hug-personified, it’s the March family home in Little Women (2019). Despite being set in the 19th century, this household has enduring appeal. From the soft candlesticks glowing against weathered wooden furniture, to the layered patchwork quilts, well-loved stacks of books, and hand-stitched details, every corner feels comforting and bursting with love. It’s a space that celebrates creativity, sisterhood, and storytelling.
Design style: Eclectic, vintage charm
Colour palette: Muted colours, soft pastels, subtle wood tones
Recommended bed: Jenkins Upholstered Ottoman Bed Frame
To achieve the homey Little Women look, embrace ‘shabby chic’. Opt for warm, muted tones like pale yellows, terracotta, and wood tones, but don’t worry too much about coordination – that’s where the eclectic charm comes in.
Go for a sturdy upholstered bed, and dress with a patchwork quilt and embroidered cushions for an inviting, ‘lived-in’ bedroom aesthetic. To add a festive feel, try your hand at some DIY Christmas decorations, such as dried orange garlands and handmade paper stars. Not only do they look beautiful, but making them can be good fun for the whole family!

Finally, a trip to Whoville in How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). Nobody quite does Christmas decks quite like the Whos’! With their bright colours, strings of lights, snowy surfaces – and a whole host of festive cheer. It’s a universe where more means more, and every rooftop, front porch, and town square is a canvas for twinkling lights and whimsical decorations.
Design style: Maximalist, dopamine décor
Colour palette: Crisp whites and vibrant, primary colour decorations
Recommended bed: Davies Upholstered Ottoman Bed Frame
To bring a little Whoville into your own bedroom, embrace the snow-capped, frosty vistas and layer crisp whites and fluffy blankets to create a magical Christmas scene. See our festive Davies bed above for inspo…
Now for the festive flair: Christmas lights! Wrap your shelving, headboard, windowsills, pretty much any surface you wish, with strings of fairy lights and colourful bulbs. The result is a twinkly, dollhouse-style bedroom that glows all day long. To finish, deck your space with green garlands, oversized baubles, and stripey candy canes for a room that even Martha May would be envious of!
Hosting a festive sleepover with your nearest and dearest? Or simply planning a solo night in? A perfect Christmas film night is all about dialling up the cosiness. Think layers of knitted blankets, fairy lights, and mugs of hot chocolate within arm’s reach (a must!). Don’t forget to light a scented candle that fills the air with the smells of cinnamon and gingerbread. Delish!
Sure, you could watch your favourite Christmas flicks from the comfort of your sofa… but how about taking things up a notch? A TV bed is a must for a super cosy movie marathon.
Our fabulous Foley TV Bed is a great choice, with its stylish velvet finish frame and hidden LG Smart TV, which discreetly tucks away into its foot end. Plus, with the Foley’s high headboard and cocooning winged sides, you’ll feel like you’re sleeping in Santa’s sleigh all through the cold winter nights.
Looking for even more decor inspiration from the silver screen? Dim the lights, settle in, and queue up our favourite cosy Christmas flicks for a seasonal movie marathon (in bed, of course). Don’t forget the popcorn… and maybe a mince pie or two.
