Cabin Beds
Cabin beds and mid sleepers give kids a proper sleep space plus somewhere to play, store toys and keep their room organised. They sit lower than high sleepers, making them ideal for younger children from age six upwards. Built-in storage and play areas mean you get more out of a small bedroom without buying separate furniture.
What is a cabin bed?
A cabin bed (also called a mid sleeper) raises the mattress to around 4 to 5 feet off the ground. The space underneath includes built-in storage, such as drawers and shelves, or a play area where kids can read, build dens, or keep toys. It's a space-saving bed that combines sleeping and storage in one frame.
These kids’ beds work well in small bedrooms where you don't have room for a separate bed, wardrobe and toy storage. Everything sits in one footprint, leaving more floor space for playing or moving around.
What's the difference between a cabin bed and a high sleeper?
The main difference is height. Cabin beds and mid sleepers sit at 4 to 5 feet high, while high sleepers reach 5 to 6.5 feet. High sleepers have more headroom underneath, which is why they can fit desks, chairs and sofa beds. Cabin beds have less space underneath, so they're better suited to storage or low play areas. The lower height compared to high sleepers makes them suitable for younger children.

What types of cabin beds are there?
Cabin beds with storage
These feature drawers, open shelves or cupboards built into the base. The storage sits underneath the sleeping area, so it doesn't take up any extra floor space. Useful for clothes, toys, books or school supplies. Particularly helpful in box rooms where every bit of storage counts.
Mid sleepers with play areas
Some mid sleepers leave the space underneath open, creating a cosy den for playing, reading or hanging out. You can add cushions, a small rug and some fairy lights to make it feel like a proper hideout. Kids often use this space for imaginative play or as a quiet spot away from the rest of the house.
Are cabin beds safe?
Yes. Our cabin beds are made from sturdy wood and tested to meet UK safety standards. They include guardrails in the sleeping area and secure ladders for climbing up and down. The frames have rounded edges to prevent bumps and scrapes. When assembling, follow the instructions carefully and make sure all fixings are tight. Need help? What age are cabin beds suitable for?
Cabin beds work for children aged 6 and over. At this age, most kids can safely use the ladder to climb up and down. The lower height compared to high sleepers makes them a good stepping stone for younger children who aren't quite ready for a bed that's 6 feet off the ground.
What colours and materials are cabin beds available in?
All our cabin beds are made from solid wood. You can choose from white, two-tone finishes or natural wood colours. These neutral options work with most bedroom styles and grow with your child as their tastes change. For ideas on styling kids' rooms, browse our bedroom inspiration.
What size mattress do I need for a cabin bed?
Cabin beds take a standard single mattress, which measures 3'0 wide by 6'3 long. Check the product page for any specific depth requirements. Our mattress size guide has full dimensions for all bed sizes. For help choosing a supportive mattress for your child, read our kids' mattress guide.
