What size kids' beds and mattresses should you get?

When buying a children’s bed and mattress one of the most important factors to consider is age. This impacts the longevity of the bed, and your child’s comfort, safety, and style preferences. Our beds for kids come in four sizes to suit every age: Toddler mattresses Toddler mattresses are 70cm in width and 140cm in length. This will usually last your child until they are around 4-5 years old. Before you know it, they'll be ready for their first kid's single bed. Children’s single beds single mattress is 90cm in width and 190cm in length. Most bunk beds, high sleepers and mid sleepers require a single mattress. European single kids’ beds The difference between a children’s single bed and Euro single beds is that Euro single beds are 10cm longer. Euro single mattresses are 90cm in width and 200cm in length. Our kids’ Euro single beds are all mid sleeper or bunk bed styles which are more suited to older children and teens.

How safe are kids’ beds?

Our children’s beds are crafted with safety in mind for every age through a variety of features. For example, high barriers or ladders with extra foot room on bunk beds, mid sleepers, or high sleepers. Toddler beds are lower to the floor and ensure smooth edges throughout the frame to avoid any nasty bumps.

What types of kids' beds are there?

Kids' single beds

A single bed works from the moment your child moves out of a cot, right through their teenage years. The frame sits at a standard height, making it easy for younger children to climb in and out safely. Available in wood, metal or upholstered finishes, they fit most bedroom styles and won't need replacing as your child grows.

Bunk beds

Bunk beds fit two children in the space of one bed, making them useful for shared bedrooms or regular sleepovers. They come with either traditional or angled ladders, and all include guard rails on the top bunk. Kids' beds with storage

Kids' storage beds include built-in drawers or lift-up bases that create space for toys, clothes or bedding. Cabin beds, mid and high sleepers

These raised bed frames free up floor space underneath for desks, storage or play areas. Cabin beds and mid sleepers sit at 4 to 5 feet high and work well for children aged 6 and up. Kids’ day beds

Day beds work as both seating and sleeping spaces. During the day, they look like a sofa with a backrest and raised ends. At night, they convert to a single bed. Many include pull-out trundles for sleepovers or built-in drawers for storage, making them practical for styling a box room or multipurpose spaces.

Which kids' bed is best for rooms with lots of toys?

If your child has toys everywhere, a storage bed keeps the room tidier without buying separate furniture. Choose between ottoman beds with a large storage area underneath the mattress or beds with drawers that slide out from the sides. Cabin beds also often include shelves, cupboards and drawers as part of the frame.

How do you ensure kids' beds are safe?

All our kids' beds meet UK safety standards. Frames are tested for stability, and raised beds include guard rails and secure ladders. When you're assembling the bed, follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully and check all fixings are tight. Make sure your child meets the minimum age requirement for the bed type you choose (usually 6 years for raised beds).

What colours can I choose from?

We stock kids' beds in white, black, grey, pink, blue and natural wood tones. White and grey frames work with most colour schemes and won't look out of place as your child gets older. Darker colours like black or brown hide marks and scuffs better. Pastel shades add colour without overwhelming smaller rooms.

What size kids' beds are available?

Kids' single beds: Standard single beds measure 3'0 wide by 6'3 long (90cm x 190cm). They provide enough space from toddler age through to the teenage years. We also stock single mattresses in various comfort levels to match.
Kids' Euro single beds: Euro singles are 10cm longer than standard singles (90cm x 200cm), making them suitable for taller teenagers who've outgrown a regular single.
Kids' small double beds: Small double beds measure 4'0 wide by 6'3 long (120cm x 190cm). They give older children and teenagers more room to spread out without taking up as much space as a full double.

When should a child move to a full-sized bed?

Most children transition from a cot to a single bed between 18 months and 2 years, or when they reach around 90cm tall. This gives them the space and support they need as they grow. Start with a low single bed frame rather than a raised bed, such as a cabin bed or mid sleeper, which are recommended for children aged 6 and over.
