Have you ever dressed up your bedroom for the spooky season? Styling your boudoir for Halloween is the perfect way to summon seasonal spirit – no cauldron required.
Not that we want you to have a fright in the night, it’s more about leaning into the autumnal holiday aesthetic and creating a cosy setting to match – ok, and maybe with a hint of stylish spookiness. Because how else can you level up your scary movie marathon on the 31st October?!
With the creepiest holiday of the year almost upon us, it’s time to cast a spell on your bedroom space and give it a spooky makeover. If you need a helping hand, we’ve put together some creative ideas to help you delight in the festive fun and hex up your home (without changing things too dramatically). No tricks, just treats. Promise…
There’s absolutely no need to go as far as changing the colours of your bedroom – you can still have a great time adding decorations and accessories, alongside other fun and spooky touches.
If your bedroom is black and white, grey, or black and atmospheric, it’s already perfect for Halloween. You can simply add some bold touches and, hey presto, you’re already halfway there!
Consider your existing bedroom decor and think what you could add to it. If you already have some colour present, consider something that would look consistent with the theme. For example, black and orange are the colours most traditionally associated with Halloween – so if you have a black metal bed, simply add some orange bedding and you’ve instantly got a festive space.
Perhaps you fancy yourself a witch in other lifetime? If you’re looking for something a little more opulent, dark and sumptuous shades like green and purple have also become accepted Halloween colours – plus they really go well together when decorating a moody space.
Together purple, orange and green form a triad, which means they look balanced together, whilst still creating a cosy, decadent vibe. Red is another colour that has long been associated with Halloween, due to its close association with blood and gore. Warning: use at your own discretion…
Putting on suitably dramatic bedding is one of the best ways to make your bed the centrepiece of your Halloween themed bedroom.
It’s also really practical as you can simply dress up your bed and then change the bedding when the festivities are all over. Plus, they don’t need to be black to scream Halloween. In the image below, we’ve dressed our ever-so grand Lucia Upholstered Bed Frame in some beautifully rich pink and orange sheets, for an eerily elegant look.
Make sure to add layers of cosy blankets and throws – after all, you’ll need something to hide under when watching your scary flicks this Halloween night. Don’t forget about adding some themed cushions, either. We’ve gone for mystical moons and stars that would be seen on every witches bed. Dress up your bedside table with plenty of candles, just like we’ve done, as the fright night-friendly finishing touch. Now all that’s left to do is choose your movie marathon order…

You don’t need to repaint your walls or switch out your furniture to create a spellbinding space. Instead, why not get crafty with some fun Halloween DIY decor?
There are so many quick and simple touches you can make to any bedroom to make it scream Halloween! First, these can be various artworks and garlands. These are easy to make yourself and they have an eye-catching impact, so you’ll easily create the right atmosphere.
Display a couple of Halloween garlands, for example, bat or pumpkin shaped and a banner with some appropriate words and Bob’s your uncle! Jack-o-lanterns and pumpkins are essential items for Halloween décor. We love the ghostly sheets, cushions and orange string lights that are featured in this bedroom scene…
Or, why not keep things simple and pick up some real pumpkins from your local pumpkin patch (or supermarket of choice, we don’t judge here…), and have a fun evening of carving with the family? This is a great creative way to spend a night in October, plus they make for super effective decorations. Display at the foot of your bed, on your dresser, window sills – or all of the above!
No spooky space is complete without some hauntingly cosy lighting. Just take a look at any bedroom in any scary movie if you need any convincing.
Think candles (of ALL shapes and sizes), lamps, fairy lights and night lights – all of which really help to build an eerie yet inviting ambiance. Try spreading out your fairy lights and clipping them across the top of your bed frame or around doorframes and shelving. If you’ve got some large glass bowls, pop the fairy lights inside for an amazingly spooky effect.
When it comes to candles, the more the merrier! Place them on top of your bedside tables, your dresser, window sills, or even on the floor – just make sure they have a holder or stand for any melting wax. Safety first!
Fancy taking it one step further? Amaze your Harry Potter-obsessed friends and cast some real magic by hanging some “floating candles” above your bed, just like the viral ones seen in this TikTok below. We assume the assembly instructions come with the appropriate spell…
