Your children’s bedroom is where all of life’s most brilliant adventures happen. A special place for them to sleep, play, and grow. And what better way to let their imagination run wild than with a fantastic jungle-themed bedroom design?

So, if you’re looking to create the perfect sleep space for mini explorers, you’re in the right place. In this guide, we’ll show you how to blend bold colours, playful (yet practical) furniture and adventurous details to encourage imaginative play. We’ll teach you how to balance creativity with function to ensure you’re building a bedroom that works for everyday family life, too.

This one’s for all the Dora the Explorers and Georges of the Jungle! The rainforest awaits…

Build the foundation of your jungle theme with lush green palettes, jungle murals and playful decals.

First up, let’s talk about colours. A jungle-themed bedroom naturally calls for a leafy green colour palette. By taking hues from nature, your kid’s room will have an instant outdoorsy feel, bringing the tropical rainforest trees right into their room. Think green on their walls, their beds – hey, even their floors! There’s no need to be shy in a themed bedroom design…

Psst! Looking for the perfect accent colour? Check out our handy guide to colours that pair with green.

2. Bring the jungle to life with a mural or wallpaper

One of the easiest ways to give their room a magical jungle backdrop is with a themed wallpaper or mural. There are plenty of different jungle prints out there, from exotic rainforest designs with beautiful tropical flowers to hanging monkeys on trees (see above) to cosy campfire scenes. Just remember, when using a bold mural or wallpaper print like this, it’s sure to dictate the entire bedroom design – so think carefully before you commit.

3. Add fun wall stickers and animal decals

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! A jungle-themed bedroom is the perfect opportunity to play around with some fun animal stickers and decals. Apply them to your kids’ walls and watch as the space transforms into an exciting animal kingdom. Plus, the best news is that wall decals are budget-friendly, easy to apply and remove, and shouldn’t damage your walls underneath (just peel away carefully). Job done.

Blend furniture with function by incorporating smart beds and storage pieces that double as part of the jungle adventure.

4. Let them sleep in the trees with an elevated bed

Bring some height to their bedroom with a clever bunk bed or cabin bed. These multifunctional beds are ideal for smaller rooms, giving your kids a cosy place to sleep, as well as somewhere to play, store toys and keep their bedroom tidy.

If your child is younger and needs a lower bed, take a look at our White Playhouse Kids Wooden Bed. This playful piece is shaped like a house, complete with a roof and windows to peek out of, so your little one can have endless fun. Try styling it with khaki-coloured bedding and matching squishy cushions to create their very own jungle cabin. Perfect for teeny adventurers.

5. Keep toys and blankets tidy with clever storage beds

Does your little one have an endless pile of stuff? Sometimes it can be tricky to keep their room tidy and find a place for everything. If their wardrobes and drawers are overflowing, it may be a good idea to consider a kids’ storage bed. This way, you can maximise their space and keep their bedroom nice and organised (or near enough…).

Or, why not go for a funky storage box, like our Frankie Dino storage box?! Perfect for stashing away toys and games – just watch out for sharp teeth and claws…

6. Add natural textures with wooden or rattan furniture

To complete your jungle colour palette, you’re going to need some browns to complement all those wonderful, vibrant greens. Not only is brown reminiscent of the earth and trees that you see in the rainforest, but it’s a great shade for adding depth, contrast and texture.

Starting with a wooden bed frame is the easiest way to add interest. They’re also super versatile, perfect for standing the test of time when it comes to redecorating. Any natural materials like bamboo, rattan or jute are a welcome addition too. Think beautifully woven jute rugs to add clever zones, wicker baskets that act as toy boxes, and even a statement rattan chair for curling up with your little one and reading their favourite bedtime stories. Bonus points if it’s Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book…

Introduce cosy textiles like themed bedding, cushions, rugs and throws to complete the jungle look.

7. Keep the theme going with jungle-print bedding

Another easy way to bring some jungle personality is through their bedding. Opt for a bold jungle-print duvet cover, whether that’s a tropical leafy print, fierce leopard spots, or roarsome tiger stripes, and watch as the entire bedroom transforms.

We love this technique, as you can get a couple of different duvet designs and rotate them regularly to mix up your children’s space and keep things fresh. You could even involve your little one in the decision-making and let them decide which duvet cover they want, to give them a bed they feel proud of.

8. Add animal cushions and plush toys

Don’t forget the cuddly toys! Plush teddies are perfect for snuggling with in bed. Stick to the theme, or go for your kids’ favourite animals – be it lion, tiger, elephant, giraffe or monkey – and they’ve got their new bedtime besties.

9. Ground the room with themed rugs and throws

Rugs make for fantastic bedroom accessories. They’re soft and cosy, they can anchor a room and are even helpful for ‘zoning’ to create different areas of your kids’ bedrooms (ideal for siblings that share a sleep space). To keep your rug on-theme, consider brown jute for a rustic outdoorsy feel, or go for a plush high-pile shaggy rug in green to mimic grass.

Next, explore how lighting can set a magical jungle ambience. From twinkling fairy lights to authentic campsite lanterns.

10. String up fairy lights or leafy garlands

Dial up the cosiness by hanging some beautiful, twinkling fairy lights or garlands around their bedroom. This could be wrapped around their bed frame, hung above their beds like a glowing canopy, or around the edge of their entire room.

Top tip: If your fairy lights come with different settings, switch them to a flickering glow and tell your little one they are magical light-up fireflies that come out at night!

11. Pick playful jungle lamps and nightlights

Another creative way of lighting up their bedroom is with a themed nightlight. Choose a lamp with an animal motif, jungle patterns or safari-style lanterns. All of these options will add to the rainforest theme of their bedroom and are a super fun alternative to standard table lamps.

Last but not least, add some decorative touches and imaginative elements that bring their jungle bedroom to life.

13. Bring the outdoors in with real or faux greenery

It wouldn’t be a real jungle bedroom without some greenery! Depending on how old your kids are, you may want to use this as an opportunity to teach them about taking care of plants and give them their own little (easy maintenance) project. Not only does this give them responsibility, but they look great, too!

Or, if that sounds too much like hard work, consider using some artificial houseplants as decor on their bookshelves or window ledges. Same effect, just far less mess. Perfect for cheeky monkeys!

14. Create a cosy explorer’s nook

Jungle explorers need downtime, too. To help encourage some calm, bedtime reading, why not create a cosy nook in the corner of their bedroom? Grab a beanbag chair, some blankets, even a tent for them to crawl into, and you’ve got a ready-made reading nook for mini explorers. Reading time has never been so fun!

Open up their world with a jungle-themed bedroom. By blending playful designs with practical furniture and storage choices, you can easily achieve the perfect jungle bedroom for little explorers.
