Colour analysis, or “getting your colours done”, has helped many of us hack our wardrobes and find the best colours to suit our hair and skin tone. But could it help us to decorate our homes too? Let’s find out…
When it comes to personal styling, many of us know instinctively which colours make us feel our best selves, and which shades leave us looking a little lacklustre. But what if those same colour theory principles could help to curate a sleep space that feels just as effortlessly “you”?
Colour analysis isn’t just a fashion hack; it may just be interior design’s newest secret weapon. By tapping into the tones that harmonise with your personal colour palette – be it spring, summer, autumn or winter – you may just design a bedroom that feels more grounding, more expressive and more aligned with your truest identity.
Have we piqued your interest? Let’s take a spin of the colour wheel to decorate your bedroom in line with your specific colours…
Colour analysis is the process of analysing a person’s natural features (skin tone, eye colour, hair colour, and so on) and matching them to a particular set of hues or, a “season,” determining which makes them look the most radiant. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to which season is best; only which works best for you.
Well, the whole point of colour analysis is that it helps you find the best colours to wear to look the most refreshed, energised and glowing – and let’s face it, when we look good, we feel good too.
But colour analysis is more than just aesthetics. In fact, leading image consultant and colour analyst, Carol Brailey says it’s “life changing.” She told the BBC: “People cry because they’ve never seen themselves look so vibrant – I have witnessed people’s lives change.”
What’s more, the fashion moguls at British Vogue say that it “encourages intentionality in shopping.” By sticking to the colours that suit us best, we’re less likely to succumb to fast fashion trends that come and go in a flash. So, there’s a sustainability element here too!

If you’re a spring colour palette, you have warm undertones, lighter hair (usually blonde or strawberry blonde) and a bright, clean aesthetic. Celebrities with these springlike features include Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, and Nicole Kidman. To create a bedroom that complements your colour swatch, keep things fresh, bright and joyful. It’s springtime personified.

A summer colour palette, which typically means you have cooler undertones, calls for softer, muted shades for a gentle contrast. Some well-known summers include Emily Blunt, Reese Witherspoon, and Margot Robbie – so you’re in good company! To match your swatches, your bedroom design should be delicate, cool and dreamy.

For those with an autumn colour palette, which refers to individuals with rich colouring and warm, golden tones (Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, and Hailey Bieber are prime examples), you’re going to want to match this ambience in your bedroom design. Think warm, earthy and super inviting.

If you’ve got cooler undertones paired with high contrast features, you’re likely to have a winter palette. Famous faces with a winter palette include the beautiful Lily Collins, Anne Hathaway and Zooey Deschanel. To marry your bedroom design to your season, keep things cool yet moody and dramatic. Contrast is key.
Who’d have thought you could so easily turn your personal colour palette into a dream bedroom design?! By tapping into your season and using the key shades and furniture, materials and decor that complement it best, you can create a bedroom that truly feels like a reflection of you.
Of course, all of this is just a guideline. If you’re someone who loves to play around with the look and feel of your bedroom throughout the year, it might be an idea to check out our seasonal guide to bedroom design, which helps you switch up your decor from season to season.
