How big is a king size bed frame?
King beds are 5ft (150cm) wide and 6ft 6ins (200cm) long, making them 6 inches wider and 3 inches longer than a double bed. So, if you feel cramped on a double bed, a king-sized bed may be for you. They are also the same length as a super king- sized bed, so if you need the extra length, but not the width, then a king sized bed is your best option.
What makes a king sized bed better than a double bed?
You may be thinking that you do not need the extra space, but if you are having trouble sleep-ing, a king sized bed may help to resolve some of those issues. The extra space can minimise dis-ruption from a fidgety partner, especially when combined with a pocket spring mattress.
With more room, more air can pass through the free space in your duvet, helping to keep you cool during those summer months. If keeping cool is a problem for you, then a king sized mat-tress with a gel mattress could be the best solution.
You might not need a king sized bed frame now, but it may be a sensible option for the future. If you are planning on expanding the family, the extra space is a welcome addition during pregnan-cy to help with getting a more comfortable night’s sleep. You may be thankful for the extra space when your little ones pay you an unplanned midnight visit, whether that’s due to a bad dream, or just an excuse for a pillow fight.
If you're low on additional floor space, you can still sleep in luxury with a king size bed, just opt for one with storage options. These offer a great solution for space-saving, but remember to account for space around the bed for divan drawers to open fully or ceiling height for an ottoman to lift. Take a look at our Home measurement guide for more advice.
How big should a bedroom be for a king size bed?
In general, any room that is above 400cm in width and length should comfortably accommodate a king-size bed and some bedroom furniture. However, whilst the above measurements are tra-ditional, standardised dimensions, you need to be aware that a king size bed with a headboard and footboard will sometimes be a little bigger than the figures we've provided.
