Our kids mattresses, available in medium or firm comfort grades, are perfect for your child's first bed.
Sleep is an important part of your child's life, and there is no other time that they’ll be sleeping for quite as long as they do now. With longer sleeping times and frequent napping, it’s crucial that a children’s mattress can cater to the needs of your child as they develop. After all, adequate rest will help to ensure your child stays happy and healthy, and make sure they continue to grow and develop as they should.
What to consider when choosing a kids mattress?
There are several considerations to bear in mind when choosing a mattress for your child.
While every child is different, we may wish to consider a firmer mattress than what you may be predisposed to choose. This is because a growing child needs adequate support to ensure their spine is properly aligned throughout the night.
The firmness of the mattress you choose depends on the sleeping position your child prefers as a child that tends to sleep on their front may need a softer mattress to help cushion their neck more effectively.
If your child is prone to moving a lot at night, you may want to consider investing in a memory foam children’s mattress, as the dense material can work to contain restless limbs.
You may also wish to consider supplementing your chosen mattress with a mattress protector. A growing child is more than likely to make marks on their mattress, whether this is the result of drink spillages or night time accidents. A removable mattress protector can help to safeguard against these little problems and is easy to wash and replace whenever you need to.
How do I choose the right child's mattress size?
Another consideration you should bear in mind is the height and weight of your child, as this will affect the size of the mattress you choose. We have children’s mattresses in a range of sizes, including cot, toddler and single.
This means there is a suitable size available no matter the age of your child. A children’s single mattress allows for plenty of growing, and is also small enough to make sure a child’s bedroom doesn’t feel too crowded or take up valuable space that they could be playing in.
What about mattresses for elevated beds?
If your mattress is for a bunk bed, mid sleeper, high sleeper or cabin bed, there’s more to choosing a mattress than comfort and price. A big factor is the thickness of mattress, for which you’ll normally need a depth at a maximum of 15cm. This ensures the mattress stays below the safe‐guards and keeps your child secure all night long.
When choosing a mattress, make sure you check the length and width of your bed too. Most elevated bed mattresses need to be at single or euro single size to match the bed in question.
