“Choosing the right bedroom colour is more than just a design decision—it sets the mood for your personal sanctuary. From calming blues to earthy browns, the perfect shade can transform your space into a haven of relaxation and style."

Deciding what colour to paint your bedroom can feel like a lot of pressure. Of course, it’s an important decision; your colour scheme will likely set the tone for the rest of the room, so it needs to feel right.

Many factors can influence your colour choice, from the shape and size of your bedroom to how much light gets in, what kind of furniture you already have and what design styles are trending.

In this blog, we reveal which bedroom paint colours are currently dominating. We also share our top styling tips on which beds go best with each shade and how to get the look with matching furniture, beautiful bedding, and complimentary decor that will transform your bedroom into a stunning show home.

1. Pretty pink bedrooms

First up, we have Little Greene’s Arras. A deep, earthy red shade which is sophisticated and sumptuous all at once.

This colour offers a grand backdrop for any bedroom. Let it bring the drama all on its own with neutral accessories, or, why not go for some tonal styling like we’ve done here? Our Margot Ottoman in pink complements the muted red paint perfectly, resulting in an elevated aesthetic. We recommend decorating with light wood accessories and pops of white to keep things bright and bold.

2. Blissful beige bedrooms

Neutrals are always a winner for a bedroom colour scheme, which is why we love Sherwin Williams’ Perfect Khaki as pictured above. This beautifully subtle shade has warm yellow tones, which is great for those who want a neutral bedroom that still feels inviting and cosy.

Beige is easy to style in a bedroom because it’s super adaptable. You could use darker hues of beige such as biscuit and tan, or lighter tones such as sand and cream. Alternatively, you could use wooden furniture to coordinate with the beige walls, like we’ve done here with our Hayden Bed Frame. Accessorise with some sleek lines and minimalist ornaments and you’ve got a cool, contemporary look. Who said beige had to be bland?!

3. Earthy brown bedrooms

Fancy something a little richer? If you’ve been starstruck by Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2025, Mocha Mousse, why not add a dash of this deliciously warm shade to your bedroom colour palette?

If you’re nervous about going the whole hog, just look how we’ve styled our Delaware Upholstered Sleigh Bed with a half-half wall colour, with the deep brown on the bottom half, complemented by a beautiful light taupe on top. This dreamy colour duo results in a rich, earthy brown bedroom palette, which makes for the perfect background to contrast the rustic natural-tone finish of our brown leather Delaware Bed. We’ve styled this room with rich terracotta and beige tones, plus some pops of green houseplants to tie everything together.

4. Calming blue bedrooms

Whether you associate it with clear summer skies or rolling waves crashing onto the shore, blue has long been known for its calming qualities – making it a popular choice for the bedroom. That’s one of the many reasons we love Valspar’s Placid Pool.

When styling a pale blue bedroom, it’s best to stick to the cool undertones with other shades of blue. This keeps the room coordinated. White is also a great contrast for a crisp, calm ambience. Just look how we’ve styled our Marcello bed with a white rug, bedside tables and lamps, and small accents of darker blue blankets and cushions. It reminds us of a beautiful seaside retreat.

5. Moody dark bedrooms

Just because your bedroom is a place to unwind and relax, doesn’t mean you need to stick to a muted colour palette. On the contrary, sometimes a dark and moody bedroom colour scheme offers the best ambience to drift into a deep, deep slumber. Just ask the Madison.

We love pairing darker shades like this charcoal grey paint with a light coloured bed, like we’ve done here with the Madison Ottoman Bed Frame. The result is a cool, cosy contrast that looks equal parts moody and inviting. To elevate the look, consider some wooden wall panelling to add extra depth and texture to the room. Finish by dressing the bed in dark accents to coordinate with the walls. *Chefs kiss.*

6. Soft green bedrooms

There’s a reason that green is so often the colour of choice in our bedrooms; it’s calming, peaceful and can even make a room feel bigger and brighter. That’s why we styled this bedroom in Dunelm’s Light Moss paint.

Check out how we’ve even added the paint on the shelves to the righthand side of the bed, for an elevated colour-drenching moment. This is paired with other neutral tones for balance, such as the light wooden and taupe Soren Bed Frame, the crisp white bed sheets and copper accessories. We also dressed the bed with muted mustard cushions for a subtle pop of colour. Using more than one neutral is a great technique to add interest to a room, whilst still creating an environment that feels calm and soothing to unwind in. Aaaaand relax…

What is the most popular bedroom paint colour?

Unpretentious classics

Next year, we expect to see a lot of warm, inviting hues used in our bedroom designs such as rich neutrals, earthy browns and rusts. Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2025, Mocha Mousse, is just that. A simple and comforting warm brown, perfect for painting your entire room in – or using as an accent colour.

Commenting on the colour selection Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute said, “Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to being aspirational and luxe.”

Whinnie Williams sat at a table with flowers, looking straight to camera

"Mocha mousse is a comforting neutral; it feels organic, earthy, peaceful, and warming. It can work with an array of styles, as a wonderful base colour to match most things, and can be a full-on wall colour or incorporated in accents. It’s a perfect colour to bring harmony into your bedroom to boost personal wellness and comfort whilst elevating it into a luxurious, indulgent, and calming feel.’’

Sustainability shift

We’re also seeing a shift towards sustainability, as homeowners choose colours for their homes that will stand the test of time, rather than giving in to fast fashion trends.

Laurie Pressman, VP of the Pantone Color Institute adds to this: “With consumers increasingly conscious about consumption, trend cycles have slowed down and seasonless, genderless shades that broaden our definition of core colours are coming to the forefront. These neutral, fundamental shades are practical, yet at the same time offer a bit of low-key chic. They can stand on their own or work as building blocks of other shades.”

Colour clashing

We’ve also seen a huge trend for colour clashing recently and this trend shows no sign of stopping. This is the art of combining two bright colours that you might not expect to go together – but still do!

If you’re unsure about which colours clash “well” together, our top tip is to look at the colour that’s opposite it on the colour wheel. With this in mind, yellow and purple are an unlikely perfect pairing, as are pink and green.

Top tip: If you’re nervous about mixing too many colours, try following the 60-30-10 rule:

  •  60% – Primary colour (usually your bedroom walls)
  • 30% – Secondary colour (likely to be your flooring, an accent wall, curtains or blinds, bedroom furniture)
  • 10% – Accent colour (decor such as cushions, smaller rugs, lamps and ornaments)

What are the ideal bedroom colour combinations?

Although a single trendy colour makes a statement, marrying paint colours thoughtfully adds personality and creates that dreamy atmosphere we all want.

Let’s take a look at some standout combinations, tapping into those gorgeous colours we talked about earlier:

1. Sage green and beige

We love sage green bedrooms, and pairing this earthy hue with a warm, soft beige like Lick’s Beige 10 is a heavenly combination. The beige keeps the look light, airy, and fresh, while the soothing qualities of the green stand out. Try serene sage walls with gorgeous white woodwork or a white bed frame. It’s chic and wonderfully relaxing.

2. Blues and light greys

You simply can’t go wrong with the eternal serenity of blue for a peaceful night’s sleep. Pair Valspar’s Placid Pool with elegant soft greys. The blueness is superbly contrasted by the grounding quality of grey, which creates a calming and well-balanced atmosphere.

3. Pink and greys or beiges

Modern pinks are all grown up and oh-so-trendy! A stunning dusty rose or Dulux’s Sweet Embrace add warmth and a touch of romance. Pair these soft pinks with a balancing charcoal grey or even a lighter beige to make it look beautifully modern.

4. Earthy neutrals and deeper natural colours

The enduring popularity of neutral bedrooms – warm beiges, multi-room greiges, and Little Greene’s orange-brown Galette, to name a few – sets the perfect canvas for restful evenings. Elevate this classic look by layering earthy hues. Adding a splash of deep olive green in pillows, a throw, a bright terracotta accent, or even dark-wood furniture can add spectacular depth.

5. Dramatic darks and illuminating accents

Want to be bold? Go ahead and swaddle yourself in dark bedroom hues. A charcoal grey so deep, rich forest green, or even that indulgent grey-blue we talked about before from Little Greene can be atmospheric. The secret to making these darker tones really work is to balance them out with light touches. Think white linens, a light-coloured rug, or cheery, zesty pops of colour.

Remember that your perfect colour combination is one that relaxes you and makes you feel comfortable. Your bedroom is your haven, so have fun experimenting with these bedroom paint colours.

What paint colours look best in a bedroom?

There really is no right or wrong answer to “What colour should my bedroom be?” Interior design is all about self-expression, so your bedroom needs to feel relaxing for you. That being said, some colours look particularly amazing in a bedroom.

Neutrals are a great choice. They’re a timeless classic that never go out of style. Whilst many interior design trends come and go, you can always rely on neutrals looking chic and sophisticated year after year.

Often referred to as the “colour of zen,” blue is widely considered the most calming colour on the wheel. That’s probably why so many of us choose this peaceful shade for our bedroom colour palettes.

What is the best colour for sleep in a bedroom?

Legend has it that some colours can help us sleep better. Okay, it’s not a legend. It’s actually colour psychology – and it’s very interesting.

According to colour psychology experts, some hues (such as calming blues and greens) can make us feel more relaxed, whilst others (sorry red, we’re looking at you) can make us feel more alert and energised. So, if you’re finding yourself restless and unable to sleep when you dive into bed, it might be time for a colour switch-up…

You’ll be surprised by how a fresh lick of paint and a few spruces can totally transform a room and make it feel brand-new.

The most important thing to remember when choosing your bedroom colour scheme is striking that balance between picking a colour that reflects your personal taste, whilst also evoking feelings of relaxation. The goal is to create a bedroom that makes you feel happy waking up every morning, and somewhere you can’t wait to curl up with a book and drift off into slumber every night.
