How to choose your super king headboard

When it comes to choosing the best headboard for your bedroom, there are a few things to think about. You’ll need to consider everything from size to material, padding to colour.

Size

Clearly, you’ll need your superking headboard to at least match the width of your mattress. Outside of this there are no other specific size requirements. So, depending on the style you choose, the size of your super king headboard will vary.

That said a super king bed headboard will always be at least 6ft wide – the same size as a super king mattress. But they can go beyond, so make sure it fits the space you have in mind. It’s also worth checking height too, especially if you have shelving or artwork above your bed.

Material

The material your headboard is made from should be your first consideration. Wooden headboards generally suit wooden beds, metal headboards suit metal beds, and so on. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t mix and match. Leather can look great with wood, while some metal headboards can work well with fabric upholstered divan bases. It’s also worth considering how easily cleaned the materials are. Leather and faux leather are the lowest maintenance as they are generally wipe clean. For any other materials, consider buying a fabric cleaner just in case there are ever any mishaps.

Colour

Matching colours will always work great and provide a consistent and finished aesthetic for your bedroom. Consider your bedroom’s colour palette and look to find a headboard that suits. For a warm and textured style, look for light and natural styles. If something minimal and clean is more up your street – white, grey and black tones work well.

Padding

If you like to relax in bed with a book or a hot drink, you’ll want a decent level of padding to rest on. Fabric upholstered and leather headboards are your best bet. Wooden and metal headboards can be a little uncomfortable without added pillows, so look for a plush fabric and relax in the height of luxury.
