Are bunk beds safe?

Yes, bunk beds are safe. Our bunk beds for kids and adults are made with safety standards in mind, conforming to British Standard Specification 1 BS EN 747. To ensure top safety, follow the guidelines for proper assembly and make sure there’s at least 24 inches (61 cm) of space between the top bunk and the ceiling. What size are bunk beds?

Standard bunk beds provide the same sleep space as a single bed. They are typically 39 inches wide, 79 inches long, and 65 inches high (99cm x 200cm x 165cm). Some models, like our Northwood Triple Bunk Bed, come with a double bunk bed on the bottom and a single on the top, offering more room.

What age range are bunk beds suitable for?

Kids’ bunk beds are suitable for ages 6 and up. The top bunk should only be used for older children who can climb up and down safely, while the bottom bunk is better suited to younger kids. There is no maximum age for bunk beds; they can be used for teen bedrooms, and there are even adult bunk beds for smaller spaces or guest rooms, too.

Most bunk beds require a single mattress for both the top and bottom bunks unless you have a model that needs a larger size. When looking for a bunk bed mattress, however, the top bunk should be no thicker than 15cm to ensure the guard rails are at the correct height.
