Being at the correct temperature in bed is vital for good sleep. If you’re too hot or too cold, you might could find yourself waking in the night, or you may struggle to fall asleep in the first place. One important factor that determines your bodily temperature is the duvet tog rating.

The duvet tog rating determines its insulation levels. The higher the rating, the better the duvet is at retaining heat. If you’re looking to keep extra warm in the night, choosing a tog 13.5 would be a good option. In comparison, if you sleep better in colder temperatures, lowering the tog of your duvet to a 10.5 might be more preferable.

Another factor when choosing the tog rating of your duvet is season. English weather changes rapidly, so choosing a duvet that can compensate for the changing temperature is crucial. Understandably, having multiple duvets is not ideal, so we recommend settling with a tog 10.5. This duvet tog rating offers a consistent temperature all year round and will save you from having to stuff your cupboard with multiple duvets!

Choosing the Correct Duvet Size

This might seem a little obvious, but make sure you choose the right size duvet for your bed.Our duvet sizes range from cot bed to super king.

Before purchasing a duvet, make sure you know your bed size. So you can be sure, here are the measurements of various bed sizes:

Cot bed: 120cmx150cm

Single: 135cmx200cm

Double: 200cmx200cm

King: 230cmx220cm

Super King: 260cmx220cm

On a side note, if you share a bed with someone, getting a size up from your bed can be beneficial. For instance, if you have a double bed, getting a king size duvet will give you more to go around, so you both can be cosy as you sleep.

How To Care For Your Duvets

Taking proper care of duvets can help to extend their overall life. It’s generally advised to wash your duvets every two to three months.

How to wash your duvet depends on the filling and material. Generally, they can be washed on a warm, gentle cycle. They can also be dried in a tumble drier on a low heat. Be sure to refer to the care instructions on the duvet that you choose when washing.

What to do with an old duvets?

If you’re buying a new duvet to replace yours, you have a few options for what to do with the old one:

Firstly, you could put the old duvet in a clothes recycling bin, which can be found near local supermarkets. They’re usually situated in the car parks and all donations go to charities.

Alternatively, you could gift your old duvet to the Salvation Army (SA) who will give it to homeless individuals.

A third option is to donate the old duvet to an animal shelter. They’re always happy to accept extra bedding for the various dogs and cats in their care.
