Bed In A Box Mattresses
A rolled mattress, otherwise known as a bed in a box, delivers great support and comfort whilst also having the convenience of being easily transportable. We have a great range of roll up mattresses to suit your sleeping needs.
What is a rolled mattress?
A rolled mattress comes vacuum packed into a neat, compact package which makes for easy transportation, hence the name bed in a box. They’re ideal if you live in a high-rise building, a small home or you think it will be difficult to get it to your chosen room. You can also store the rolled mattress in a box for up to 2 months, making it the perfect purchase for those waiting to move into their new home. If you relate to these scenarios, a roll up mattress might be the ideal solution for you.
The benefits of a roll up mattress
A rolled mattress is compressed into a cylinder shape for delivery. Whilst they are machine rolled and vacuum packed tightly, the quality of the roll up mattress is uncompromised. Once unfurled, you'll have a fully functioning, supportive and comfortable mattress to rest on.
Because of the way roll up mattresses are packaged, they are ideal for people moving home or waiting to decorate their bedroom. They’re also perfect for people who simply want the ease and convenience of ordering online and having their new mattress delivered to their door. Or, if you plan to collect from store, you'd likely struggle to get a full standard double mattress in your car – but you’d comfortably fit a rolled mattress in there!
The ability to store your bed in a box means you can easily purchase your mattress in advance and move it to where it needs to be whenever the time arises. The mattress in a box will remain in perfect condition while in its packaging, so if you need to decorate, you don't need to worry about getting paint on your newly purchased bedding. Simply wait until the room is complete and then roll the mattress out. It’s recommended not to leave your bed in a box for longer than 2 months to avoid any damage to your mattress.
Can you sleep on rolled mattress straight away?
A bed in a box mattress comes tightly vacuum-packed, so will need time to unfurl, but they are generally ready to sleep on within an hour of opening. It can take 8-48 hours for a rolled mattress to fully expand depending on the thickness and filling type. While your rolled mattress can be slept on during this time, just be mindful that it may not be as comfortable until it has completely regained its shape.
Guest bed in a box
You can use a rolled mattress in any room but they’re particularly convenient for situations such as furnishing a guest room.
If your spare room is not complete yet or you need to conserve space until your guests arrive, then a compact, rolled mattress is a great choice. This means that you can keep your house free from the obstruction of a spare mattress, while not compromising on your guests' comfort. We have a wide range of double rolled mattresses that are perfect for making the most of space in a guest room.
If you have bunk beds, a single rolled up mattress is much easier to carry up the ladder than a flat mattress. Once in place, you can remove the plastic wrapping and roll the mattress out. Leave for a good few hours to fully expand to its full shape, and then you have a mattress ready to go without the stress of trying to hoist a full mattress up to the top bunk safely.
Types of rolled mattresses
Bed in a box mattresses come in various styles, comfort levels and materials. Here are some of the most common types of rolled mattress:
Rolled memory foam mattress
For something a bit more luxurious, a memory foam mattress might be the perfect solution. These mould to your shape and alleviate pressure from your joints, giving you a beautiful and restful sleep.
Rolled hybrid or pocket spring mattress
A hybrid or pocket spring rolled mattress is the ultimate in transportable luxury. These have micro pocket springs, which adjust to the contours of your body while you sleep and distribute your body weight evenly. Then the mattress is topped with a layer of memory foam, which adds even more comfort and support.
Open spring rolled mattress
Open spring rolled mattresses are often the most affordable option, while still being comfortable and compact. Due to their composition, they are best for occasional use. However, at only 20cm height when fully expanded, you can still store these easily when they aren't needed.
Rolled kids mattress
A bed in a box is an easy and convenient choice for kids' bedrooms. Rolled mattresses are great for a bunk or high sleeper bed. Our rolled kids mattresses come in a range of sizes and filling types, so you can still provide your children with a great night's sleep, but with less hassle than a flat mattress.
How to unpack your roll up mattress
Don't worry, a bed in a box is easy to unpack and use. Once your new rolled mattress is ready to be unpackaged, simply move it into its place, whether that be on the floor or a bedframe, and remove the packaging. The roll up mattress will slowly start to rise and transform into shape.
As mentioned, it will take a few hours for your mattress to flatten and expand, so try to leave it for as long as possible before sleeping on it. Every rolled mattress comes with its own recommendation, so read the product specifics for more information.
Once a bed in a box has been opened, it cannot be rolled up again. The mattresses are rolled and vacuumed-packed by machines. If you need a temporary bed, explore our range of guest beds, which includes sofa beds, air beds, and fold-away beds.
