Dreams’ first venture into this area dates back as far as 1995, when it introduced a unique old bed and mattress collection and recycling service. In the last two years alone, it has collected and recycled a staggering 65,000 beds or mattresses, a figure which is anticipated to increase dramatically with the arrival of the new shredding machines. The bed frames, springs and other metallic items are melted down and re-used in the manufacture of new metal products. The wooden bed frames are turned into mulch for multiple uses including chipboard manufacture, landscaping, children’s play areas etc. The cardboard and paper in turn is converted into new cardboard or paper, the polythene is reconstituted to create new polythene or plastic products and fabric cut offs are used to make building insulation materials.
This significant investment will set Dreams apart from its competitors, not only by offering its customers a unique and added value service but also by demonstrating great corporate social responsibility. Britain’s leading Bed Specialist is now also Britain’s leading bed recycler.
