To commemorate the event, Mike and his wife, Carol, held a celebratory lunch for all its suppliers, to thank them for the support they have shown the business over the past two decades.
The special luncheon hosted by the Dreams Board of Directors was held at the prestigious Cliveden House in Berkshire, and was attended by many high profile figures from the bed industry including amongst others Jonathan Myer from Myer’s, Peter Keen from Hypnos, Keith Foulstone from Simmons and Neal Mernock from Silentnight. A real powerhouse luncheon with the 50 people in the room accounting for over three quarters of the UK bed Industry.
The event took place in the famous French Dining Room, the same venue that was chosen to host Dreams’ 10 year anniversary celebrations.
In an upbeat speech, Mike Clare said ‘I was always confident that Dreams would take off like a rocket and after 20 years I hope we haven’t lost any of our ‘sparkle.’ I get asked all the time am I proud of everything we have achieved at Dreams? You’d better believe it…we have two cabinets in our Head office Reception, full of awards, cups and certificates. All down to the enthusiasm and determination of our people, the country’s best team… a truly unique Dream Team.’
He added: ‘But today is about you, our suppliers, it’s a chance for us to say thank you. There’s no way we could have achieved half of what we have done without your loyal support and understanding.’
Dreams’ journey has been an incredible one with records broken every year. And its twentieth year has been no exception! By the year end, sales will have grown by some 29% to over £200m and profits are on track to have more than doubled to an all-time high of £15m. A further 27 new stores will have opened (10 in the last 10 weeks of the year alone!) bringing the total to over 170 across the UK. Plus over 200 new jobs will have been created, bringing the total to over 1,400. What better way to celebrate its 20th anniversary!
