The start of something good
Mike Clare is the founder of Dreams. He's been working with furniture all his life. You could say he eats, drinks and sleeps beds. Hence he had such vision and foresight to realise there was an opportunity in the marketplace for a specialist bed retailer. A retailer who could provide a comprehensive product range, coupled with real product knowledge. Let's just say, he understood the importance of sleeping in the right bed. The rest is history. In 1987 the first Dreams store opened its doors.
Britain's leading Bed Specialist
In those days there were plenty of places you could buy a bed, but there was no such thing as a specialist, or anyone who had a real understanding of beds. Not before Dreams, that is. Beds are our passion. We love beds. We want to know everything about them. So from the very first shop in West London the concept was simple, to build a business on the four cornerstones of choice, price, delivery and comfort. By the year 2000, Mike had overseen the opening of his 50th store. And by 2002, with 67 stores and our very own mattress factory, Dreams became Britain's
leading Bed Specialist. What's more, our efforts weren't going unnoticed. We picked up the 'Furniture of the Year' award for an unprecedented third time.
The UK's fastest growing retailer
The success of this simple formula, bolstered by the hands on approach and enthusiasm of Mike has expanded the business to over 160 superstores. Mike says, "Dreams are well known for having massive choice, the lowest prices and next day delivery, which makes us very hard to compete with. We stock every type of bed imaginable and we're proud of the fact, we're the 'One Stop Shop' for beds." In 2006, with over 120 stores across the country, Dreams opened its doors to customers on the Internet. Since then we've gone from strength to strength, opening nine new stores in Scotland, a brand new bed factory, and being crowned UK's fastest growing retailer by Europe's 500.
